This kind of sport is both exciting and risky at the same time as well. Exciting since it is an adrenaline rusher for those “extremists” who want to do a sport that really thrills and chills them. Yet, at the same time, it is also risky since it has something to do with jumping and falling.

That’s why we have to heed on its safety to avoid accidents. You don’t want your gap year learning end up in a tragic experience right? So we will be tackling some basic but important things to consider for a safe bungee jumping experience.

Professional Support
You cannot expect to have a successful bungee jump experience without getting assistance from a professional expert of this area. Find a company that will provide you not just with modern equipments, proper safety techniques, and well-trained personnel, but the education to give you with basic pros and cons and other precautionary measures.

Equipment
Equipment should be one of the things a bungee jumper should consider. Of course, every rope and gadget you will be using should be strong and not sub-standard. You don’t want yourself ending up in a complicated situation hanging up in an emergency. Moreover, you should be examining the harness and ropes, to which it should be tied in a sturdy location.

Location
Yes, location is a factor you should consider when it comes to safe bungee jumping. Make sure beforehand that the area where you will have this activity will be clear of debris, suspended objects and other hazards. According to a site, some companies have an air bag or webbing surface to catch the jumper in case of an accident, but this is not standard or even practical in all cases. The jumping platform should allow you to stand safely until you’re ready to jump.

If you do, this particular gap year activity will either keep you from experiencing an incredible way of enjoying one’s life or it will help you overcome your fears and allow you to enjoy such one thrilling adventure of all lifetime.

What I’m pertaining about is basically the art, the thrill, the adventure, the adrenaline-rushing, never-gets-boring—bungee jumping. This is one of the most amazing gap year activities a gap year taker will surely want to avail especially when he or she is so unto adventurous trips for a gap year option.

Bungee jumping is basically a sport or activity that involves a person jumping from a very tall structure (it could be a bridge, a mountain, a helicopter, etc.) as the person is connected to a large elastic cord. What demands this is activity is a gutsy will and a strong heart to overcome the fears of falling.

Most people don’t find this an option especially when they take it to a gap year teaching. They just couldn’t stand looking down at a place hundreds of meters above ground level and eventually fall down. Yes, even if there are safety harnesses, still a person who is fearful with this sport because of acrophobia is being hindered from taking the opportunity to avail this activity.

But for those who are, well, particularly fearful but willing to take “the risks” of falling, bungee jumping is an activity they really want to do.

Most people who ever tried bungee jumping really got so nervous during their first time to try it. At first, they even hesitate to jump at all. But since they really want to overcome such fear, they pushed their limitations away and finally get their selves soaring as they jump from the highest of heights. They scream, yes; I think that is the most normal thing to do.

So if you personally want to overcome your fear and finally get to enjoy an incredible adventure like bungee jumping, try this gap year program. Surely, when you push yourself to this limit, it will make you feel so confident!

Bungee Jumping is one gap year adventure that almost all of us are so scared to try because almost all of us have fear of heights. We couldn’t picture ourselves standing at the top of a cliff or mountain jumping with an uncertainty that the rope holding us might not be strong enough to pull us up before we could ever reach the ground. And of course, the thought that you are hundreds of feet above ground level us definitely a goose- bumping thought.

But why is it that despite of its extremity, bungee jumping is still one of the top choices among those who really want to have an adventure? Some are even taking gap year courses related to this extreme sport just to know the technique and ways of overcoming fears and have the liberty to spread your arms out and feel the adrenaline rush speeding up on your veins.

But how safe bungee jumping really is by the way? There is a forum posted where she is really interested in the details of how safe or dangerous this extreme sport is. The following lists are its responds:

“It is very safe, the people running it see over loads of jumps every day, at least at AJ Hackett.

“The staff will actually fix you into your harness, don’t worry! They will also be very nice to you incase you freak out like I did, and maybe once you have done a few jumps start playing around with you to make it even more fun.

“Definitely go for it, it is the best feeling in the world (and also way better than skydiving, no matter what anyone says)” – Jessibug

“Yeah I hear on a bungee jump you can like burst all your blood vessels in your eyes and just have really red eyes, your eyes don’t actually leave your head and come out your sockets that would be so cool though make a great picture!!” – Forum User

So don’t be afraid to try bungee jumping if this is what you really wanted on the first place. Oftentimes, trying these kinds of extreme sports is also the best way to overcome our fears, especially in heights.

In every activity, being safe and sound is the greatest consideration even with the most adventurous person. Extreme adventures such as bungee jumping is often related with the the question of safeness. How safe it is to go on bungee jumping then?

It’s definitely safe to try on bungee jumping – provided that the club or organization has the latest technology, expertise, and accreditation from respective safety governing body. Bungee jumping clubs are doing their best to practice making the sport as safe as possible – considering that with just a single fatality, the business could go down.

In the United States, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration oversees all workplace safety issues. Your bungee jumping club must be accredited with such governing especially – when it’s operating in the region.

On the other hand, there is an organization devoted strictly to the safety of bungee jumpers worldwide – the British Elastic Sports Association. BERSA has laid a set of code of practice in conjunction with the Health & Safety Executive. While member clubs sign up to the laid guidelines, there are no legal implications for those clubs which will not sign up.

Bungee Jumping Accident Statistics

The extreme activity is said to be as dangerous as traveling one hundred and sixty-one kilometers my car and statistically conveys chances of death of 1 in 500,000. Fortunately, all reported accidents are caused by the improper attachment of the bungee cord, the platform, or the jumper itself – and less recorded accidents due to the breaking of the bungee cord.

Bungee Jumping Safety – a Science

Due to the riskiness of the sport, the perfect calculation is needed and the cord must be specially made to last. By the same reason, chemists and physicists are in demand to guarantee the safety of the jumpers. Physicists must make sure that the restoring force of the cord must equal the mass of the jumper multiplied by the spring constant of the material used. On the other hand, chemists must also consider the spring constant of the materials being used as well as the specified thickness to ensure survival of the jumper. The stretchability of the cord is also taken consideration. A less stretchable cord will stack the force against the bindings which will be felt by the jumper like hitting the ground while a very stretchable cord will risk the jumper on hitting the floor.

Considerations Before Planning for a Jump

Accreditation must always be the top priority of the jumper – whether your a student on gap year travel Europe or just taking a holiday off. First time jumpers must also understand the risk of jumping and must evaluate his health conditions. The club must also have their equipments in condition and being checked by safety regulators.

Always remember in order to have an unforgettable bungee jumping experience, be cautious but never get paranoid. Just relax after checking the safety requirements are being reached by such club and enjoy the jump way down. Doing a gap year teaching might be boring at times and a quick jump might be refreshing to the senses.

Gap year are not only for students who would like to have a hands-on experience on life. Some middle aged people even would like to take a break on their daily responsibilities and travel and take a leap and experience the rushing of the adrenaline.

Gap year are meant to find spark in life. And bungee jumping just fills in the role perfectly. The first time I step on the edge and try to take a step on an endless pit I was so scared that I told them with scary smile that I just couldn’t do it in my life. But when everybody had already jump and talked how exciting it was, I gather the courage to at last take a leap and Bungee jump for the first time. And now, we are scouring Europe with great locations for a bungee jump. Indeed I got addicted. I tried bungee jumping on these two sites. It was great.

Verzasca Dam- It is in Locarno in Switzerland. This seems to be a lost Italian town. You wouldn’t even know that you are still in Switzerland because of the Italian aura of the place. Just make sure you brought a cup or two of courage as you bungee jump at 700 feet.
Ponsonnas, France – One of Europe’s pride in height. The bungee jumper will really get his lifetime dream come true jumping from 103 metre high bridge.
