Indeed. There are copious of programs for college-bound high school graduates in wide variety. These programs are usually to be done in the period within 2 weeks and beyond or a month if you like. High school gap year aspirants can choose from the diversity of internship programs, and/ or summer or semester courses.

A program from a good organization designed for gap year high school purposes are ideal for those who want to explore their educational and leisure interests, as they delve into new territory.

Most probably, in many gap year organizations generally, what is offered are programs that merely promote acceleration in language growth by taking classes while immersing oneself in a foreign community; in addition, the chance to experience in a foreign country, participating in structured volunteer work in some of the areas local community, and the chance to live with a host family help the aspirants grow with encouraging comprehension.

Usually, gap year programs are to accomplish during the day and when it comes to weekend they are free to do excursions for historical and cultural importance that endow students with imperative dimension to appreciate the host country.

2. Why take a gap year before entering college?

To let high school graduates take a gap year before entering college is like exposing them to an apt source making them independent, more focus in the next academic year, gain global perspective, and most specially, expand progressive knowledge with his/ her interests.

Do you know that students who widen their intellectual stand points are likely exploring for new vistas? They are also rendering leadership development and turning to be responsible people. As it turns out, students will not only learn from the experiences, but also got to know regarding on how to save his/ her earnings.

Seeing him/ her in college is no longer a wake-up call for them, because he/ she will no longer felt worn out about being there, what he/ she learned from the gap year was indeed to earn favorably. When a student is older, more and more responsibilities are for him/ her to shoulder, in which gap year is the perfect way to consider, knowing that the chances to escape and deal with their own will teach them to be secured in many accountabilities too. Finally, upon planning your gap year, choose the organization that proposes the best gap year insurance for your protection in case.

Always bear in mind that gap year is not just a simple “escape” from your typical life of employment or studies. Bear also in mind that when a person takes a gap year Europe, he or she will always invest on three basic things: time, money, and effort.

You should really make a decision whether you are decisive to take gap year not just because of something that you think you like, but it’s something that you think it will contribute great to you.

To help you evaluate how decisive you really are in taking gap year programs, let’s take a special quiz that can actually help make up your mind. Such quiz is made by Professor Cary Cooper. Let’s take the quiz then, shall we?

Choose the response that most applies to you by highlighting on the following questions:

1.	In making a decision about most things, I usually:

know my own mind and make decisions straight away

take some time to make them

try to avoid making a decision as long as I can

2.	In my lifetime, I have traveled:

a great deal in many countries

to some countries with my parents in the summer

hardly at all

3.	While at school, I have:

worked in a number of jobs whenever I had the time

done some work but infrequently

done little or no paid work

4.	During my teenage years, I tended to:

often get involved in volunteering work in the UK and abroad

do some volunteer work at home and abroad but not a lot

get on with my studies and did little or no volunteer work

5.	My parents tend to:

let me do as I please

provide me with some space to do as I wish but create quite a few limits

set very strict limits on my behavior and provide me with little personal space

6.	The expectations of my parents on my future career:

are minimal and they leave it up to me

are moderate, with subtle pressure to do some kinds of jobs

are very heavy, wanting me to do only certain types of job

7.	I really know what I want to do for a job and career:

very much

somewhat

I don’t actually have a clue

Scoring: If you highlight the first choices, give yourself 3 points; the second choice, 2 points; and the third choice, 1 point.

Based again by Professor Cary Cooper, the results are shown as follows:

If you score 18-21, you probably don’t need a gap year unless you feel there is a particular need still unfulfilled. This brief test indicates that you have a clear idea of what you want to study and where your career may lie. You also seem to have gained experience, independence and some self-confidence through travel and work, which are the main benefits of a gap year. I see no reason for a gap year. It may be that after two years at university, you see an “experience gap” and may want to fill it before your final year.

If you score 12-17, there are some aspects of your life still unfulfilled and you might benefit from the right kind of gap year. It seems as if you have developed yourself in some areas but not others. If you have no clear-cut idea of what you want to do but have traveled, perhaps you could find employment in your gap year. If you haven’t traveled much, then travel may help to broaden you. If you feel you have had a “managed” life so far and want a challenge before university, you might consider volunteering in a developing country. The gap year you choose should reflect where the deficit is in your experience.

If you score 7 to 12, you would probably benefit from a gap year. You don’t seem to know what you want to do or what career to pursue, nor do you feel you have a broad enough experience of life. I would suggest you prioritize which of your “experience deficits” you want to work on. You could combine them: for example, you may not feel you have enough experience of work or of other cultures, so you could kill two birds with one stone by working abroad. Cary L Cooper, CBE, is professor of organizational psychology and health at Lancaster University Management School.

Did this quiz become helpful to your gap year considerations? Feel free to comment.

This has been one of their considered-to-be-year that frees them from a formal education after they finished high school and before proceeding to college. Gap year is what they named it, as what we have known today.

This gap year has been traditionally practiced in Europe particularly in Britain, and the students aim to pursue this activity because it will help them develop maturity and motivation when they soon become young adults.

However, many Asians who “see education primarily as a formal course of studies to be gotten though as quickly and successfully as possible” think that gap year pursuit is futile. Such condition results that the most ethnic groups who take gap year in the least number are the Asians.

Yet, according to IQE, there has been a study that shows the recompenses of gap year especially the gap year teaching. If they start to take a year off before proceeding college, it can actually improve their chances to become more successful in the university, especially those who are below-average students. Added by IQE, New Zealand study released in the spring of 2010 noted that this effect applies to Asian students as well as other ethnic groups.

If you are an Asian reading this, do you consider this fact helpful? Gap year is really worth considering, that’s how gap year considerations express.

There are many forms of gap year activities and you can choose from any of these: enrolling in overseas language immersion programs, volunteering with charitable organizations, apprenticing in fields, backpacking through foreign lands, and a lot more. It actually has versatile programs that you can choose from, and the best part of it is that you will get to have the chance to travel abroad in a more affordable compensation.

The term “gap year” does not really necessary mean it takes you to have the 12 months having such incredible activity. Oftentimes it only takes a few months or even a single semester off. The choices depend on a student’s circumstances and interests.

And the best of the info regarding gap year program considerations is that there are other Asian countries nowadays that allow students from anywhere in the world avail a gap year in their countries. Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea are few of these Asian countries.

So what are you waiting for? Whether you are an Asian or European, if you take gap year not as an extra expense but a chance to become efficient, you will avail this. Mind you, the time, money, and effort will never go in vain. It will really be counted to your advantage.

Before college admission it is better to take a year off and practice this career to gain commencing knowledge in the field of education. Some universities especially in the U.S. recommend gap year to their incoming freshman students including the Harvard University and the Princeton University. In fact gap year lights a college fair-type experience specifically geared toward students planning for a break are multiplying.

A winning gap year requires thorough planning since the activities to do are indeed to make your break rewarding if you put the entire things organize. Upon choosing the gap year program of your choice, it is most vital and of the best significance in determining what could be the probable outcome you wish to accomplish.

For this Gap year Program Considerations is the answer.

Gap year teaching program is one of the most increasing numbers of college students’ aim for a career in the field of education.

Budget

To come up with the budget is one of the main important things to plan over so that you know how much money you have to spend and earn. The typical cost and the exchange rate, as well as what are included need to pay for including the accommodation, foods, and daily expenses. How about a plan to participate in other gap year activities?

Insurance

Seek for an insurance company that will cover you while you are abroad. It might be worth inquiring in a travel insurance company for security. But depending on your choice, some insurance cannot cover the loss of personal things, missed flights, emergency evacuation, and so on.

Packing

Packing your things up must be few days prior to departure. Familiarize the destination so that you have ideas about important belongings to bring in relation to the current season of your destination. Furthermore, the primary documents should be placed in a much protected part of your luggage or hand carry especially the passport and other files to use during your gap year teaching program.

Health Aid Kit

Prescriptions and Immunization is in any case important to mull over. Or immunization, this should be given 4 to 6 weeks before you set out to your destination; and for your prescriptions, ensure to bring the needed medication; bottled medicines must be labeled clearly. Speak to your physician what he can recommend you more.

Most individuals have the same problem when choosing the career education for college and end up shifting courses at the 2nd and 3rd year of attendance. Financially, it’s hurtful – but we don’t need to go to school with the burden of not liking our college course, right?

Some would just learn to love their college course and carry on until graduation. But don’t you think it’s more fun to attend college chasing that dream you have discovered worth chasing? This goes out to all the students who are not sure of the career path for the future — take a gap year.

First, you might consider planning on what to do for the gap year program. Because when one travels without guide, expect him to be lost. You can write down all the possibilities and activities you would like to do with your gap year such as;

Photography

History

Gap year volunteering

Personal development

Work Abroad

Discovering foreign cuisines

Learning a new language

or all of the above

Second – consider if a gap year away fits you. If the circumstances do not allow you to take on a gap year travel and you have planned what to take on college; then a gap year away shouldn’t be the first priority. There are cases where students regret going on a gap year because at the first place this wasn’t part of their interest. Remember, that the travel away could take a year, which means you will be deferring some time for college.

Third – prioritize grants and academic scholarships. There is much learning with student gap year but the economy has gone hard. We are obliged to take on the most practical decision every time; if you’re a part of some academic grant— then consider taking a gap after college.

Put to mind that most colleges often prefer academics first with admissions. If your intention is to land a spot in a prestigious university using your gap year, then it won’t be a good strategy at all. Though, some universities have credited the significance of gap year programs.

The main point of all these things is; make a plan for the gap year travel and find/develop your passion while on a gap year program. Note: gap year travels are more advantageous for students who will be taking on humanity and arts courses. Definitely, it’s good for everybody provided that it could enhance their personalities, and refresh their minds before rocketing into college.

The last consideration would include financial capabilities. Evaluate if you can find sources of funds for the travel abroad. If not, you may check on some volunteering organizations which may offer sponsorships and aid you on the way to the foreign country.

These are countries which have become war zones, unsafe because of high crime rates, experiencing natural calamities or a combination of all these issues.

Most of these places offer a diverse environment and vibrant culture which is very suitable for gap year activities and some have been known to be great gap year destinations before events tainted its reputation. These are the list of countries which should not be your destination for the mean time.

New Zealand – The 6.3 magnitude earthquake made the southern part looked like hell on earth; the same parts were the last September earthquake showed its terror. A number of international students have reported missing while the death toll climbs over 100. International nationalities could include visitors from Japan, China, Thailand, Saudi Arabia and Britain. There are still 20 missing Chinese students which are still unfound and unaccounted Japanese students supposed to be buried under Kings Education School at the Canterbury Television site.

Libya – Try to search online using the keywords “Libya Travel” and chose the wikitravel result. You can see a travel warning which is definitely a red flag if you’re planning to work or travel to Libya. The country if under severe state and political crisis at this time. Police forces are using deadly means of ending restless civilians and even extending into Tunisia.

Other than that, there have been countries which are all time infamous because of the risks and dangers they inflict to most of their tourists. Most of these destinations are prone to poverty, high crime rate, kidnappings, and anarchy. Better avoid these countries if you want a gap year adventure far from trouble.

Somalia – Despite the dead reputation of this country, many are still trying to reach its boundaries. Pirates are very active in this area and definitely spare no one until they have their piece of ransom money.

Afghanistan – Avoid tickets which says “ a free trip to meet the Talibans in person.” The country is a war zone and no one offers you the pleasure to travel on this place even if you think of helping up.

Haiti – Still recovering from the aftermath of the past earthquake, Haiti, even though a part of America is not your last option even if you’re planning of saving up. The multicolored art and fascinating music is definitely enticing but nor good for students who wants to earn. The country is suffering from severe “brain drain.”

Colombia – what you see in movies like The Triple X “xXx” is not just some director’s product of imagination. Kidnappers are not just some guys with a stocking on his head but a totally experienced one. Cocaine is also rampant in Colombia exclusively pushed by hideous gangsters.

In conclusion, all places can have their own sort of danger but these places are noted unwelcoming for students on gap year like you. It’s sad to say that many of these countries offer unique cultural experiences and possible volunteering work. But life security is a must and shouldn’t be compromised among all things.

Don’t’ think about getting an accident either; but it would be wise to put in mind all the things which should be avoided in order to get there safe and come home sound.

So what are the best precautions when in a foreign land? Here are useful tips to remain safe and away from life hazards during your gap year program.

Apply for a gap year insurance plan – When everything fails and disaster can’t be evaded, this will cover all the accident cost as well as hospitalization expenses. However, this does not mean “its okay to be bump by a car or hit by some drunkard during party nights” —because the insurance is definitely limited to some circumstances and will not cover bleeding nose because of a riot you’ve started.

Bring with you some first aid kit – bandages, quick medications, and pain relievers aren’t that big to carry. Just put it inside a small pocket in your luggage bag. Believe me, this will help you along the trip especially when you are about to vomit.

Don’t jump out on the airplane window – we mean, avoid doing extremely dangerous things. It does not mean tour own your adventurous trip that you should perform tricks seen from “die hard movies”. Stay calm; adventure will come on the right time in the proper place.

Avoid getting lost – during city trips, avoid the habit of going astray like you were in the mall when you’re still young. Stay with the flock because you won’t like it when your trip mates get mad of finding you instead of having their lifetime trip.

Observe your surroundings – expect a surprised face when you find some nude girls on the beach. But don’t jump right out of your self. It is better to observe the culture first before making any interactions. Warning: Asians won’t find French kissing delightful if you that to them on a casual manner.

During gap year volunteering work, get serious and respect the localities, as well as the native inhabitants of the country – some actions might become disrespectful to them and you won’t like to see some blood on your back if you disrespected them extremely. Also, respect some of their traditions if don’t want some voodoo spell on you.

Fly to a tourist friendly country – this is the best decision to make in order to come home alive. Don’t travel to Libya, Iraq, and Somalia. Pirates and terrorists won’t spare you even if you’re on a gap year travel.

And the safest thing to do during a gap year away is to put discipline, respect, and mindedness to the maximum. Stay safe and have a wonderful gap year.

After graduating High School, Chris and a couple of his friends wanted to do a Gap Year Travel and so they went to some great places around the world for 5 months and did great gap year activities. On their trip, they saw amazing things and met people they will never forget…

The friends started off by visiting and travel Thailand; this is one of the most beautiful cheap places in the world. You can see a lot without spending too much money. The nightlife is also very good in Thailand. But in order to do more cultural stuff, Chris and his friends went to travel Cambodia and visit Vietnam where they saw great statues and buildings and relived the war in Vietnam by wandering through the tunnels, seeing the horrible traps from the Vietnamese people and even shooting with guns.

Afterwards, the gap year trip continued towards Singapore, Australia and especially New Zealand where they did amazing stuff. Chris told me that New Zealand was one of his best experiences and everyone has to go there if you have the opportunity. The only negative part, he said, is that it’s very expensive because you want to do as much as possible: walking in glaciers, visiting crocodile farms, going on boat trips, skydiving over the best place in the world to do so, and this is just a little summary of all the great opportunities of the South Pacific island.

At the Fiji Island, Chris and his friends experienced the slow, relaxing way of life at one of the most magical beaches in the world. They travelled extremely beautiful islands for three weeks and prepared themselves for more mainstream stuff. Because afterwards, they visited Hollywood and other attractions in Los Angeles, went to travel Mexico and they finished their perfect trip in a perfect way by going to Las Vegas and live the Las Vegas life for one night.

Talking about a good way to experience a gap year program, I think Chris and his friends topped it all

Most of the time life is not all about getting a good grade but also experiencing a life behind the four walls of the university.

You may apply to take a year off and grab your gap year. Most university allows students to take a leave off the university for personal and academic reasons. So, some students opted to get their gap year before getting a major and that is before sophomore year in college.

A financial plan is very important before one chooses his destinations. Savings for gap year is an important step if you wanted to take your gap year without the support of a parent. Even those who seek the help of parents also should save for this event.

Budgeting for a gap year is not an easy step, one chooses their destination and the length of gap year according to the budget given for this activity. Students whoa e interested and planning to enjoy a year’s meaningful travel perhaps should scout for the best agency or organization to help them.

To study abroad for another skill can be also considered as a gap year or taking a year off to gain an experience related to the course that you will be getting. An example is knowledge of computer software is much enhance and developed in another setting.

To my surprise even a volunteering gap year cost so much. It means that as you offer your services and help, you still go to pay for it. Yet, so many pay and spend big buck of money to experience a reality that is far so similar from their own.

Reading about the hardship and realities of human living conditions and sympathizing with it is different when you experienced it. Gap year thus opened such opportunity.
