Both processes make up the balance in the economy. If people will keep on saving up; then their would be lesser money to circulate. That’s why many commercial establishments exist; their main role is to let people spend in order to maintain equilibrium. However, if people spends more than they need; it could lead to poverty and financial difficulties in the family.

In connection with gap year traveling, in order to keep up with the cost of living in a foreign country, a traveler must be employed temporarily. Though, short travels may not need too much of working compared to a gap year travel – which is done all year long. Earning is an essential part of learning from a gap year program. An individual can learn so much from a gap year job aside from earning a dime for everyday living.

A gap year job can bring enormous benefits for an individual. This will give him the enough resources to support his daily activities. Working also enables the traveler or the student to seek opportunities from the global point of view. As he meets prospective employers on the way and work as many jobs as possible, he will learn to appreciate the beauty of earning on his own.

Talking about gap year travel jobs, there are many to mention where an individual can apply for such as:

Working in Resorts: We all know that tourism in every country is becoming a grand business. There are a lot of resorts which will be glad to hire someone who has a pleasing personality and good communication skills. Working in resorts will also offer the student enjoyment and escapade from boredom.

Camping Jobs: During summer, many locals and tourists come together and feast on camping sites. Students can works as demonstrators of how to set and keep a tent, or as warehouse staff and drivers.

Charity Fundraising Jobs: Though, it is some sort of a gap year volunteering, employers are being paid to approach organizations and individuals directly through telephone, through marketing, and running events.

Teaching English: In countries where their is a great need for English Language Fluency. Students from the UK, US, and Canada can earn a lot for their stay. Definitely, you will earn and learn with gap year teaching.

Fruit-picking and Farm Jobs: Students can work in farms picking up fruits. They will be earning with the weight of the fruit they will pick or the number of fruits in a bucket. Its; definitely a farm experience which can give you the best gap year ever.

There’s a lot of opportunities abroad than one could imagine. Aside from visiting tourist spots and volunteering, you will also have to earn some money in order to buy the things you need and you want.

Normally, having a vacation is spent with the family but during gap years, the student or an adult finds their way alone (without a family member) to a foreign land. Its either they travel and work or they join volunteer programs.

Now, when did the gap year program started? Here’s a short history of the gap year tradition.

The gap year tradition can be dated back to World War II—wherein governments are sending individuals to have an international understanding and prevent future wars.

When was the first gap year program started?

The first gap year experience started in United Kingdom (1960’s) wherein baby-boomers traveled to India on the infamous Hippie Trails. In 1976, the Project Trust sent its first three students to Addis Ababa which gave birth to the Gap Year Volunteer Placements market.

The gap year time line

1970’s — the independent travel carried on and thus—gave birth to lots of independent travel market pioneers geared towards satisfying the high consumer demand. Events that took place at this timeline includes; foundation of the Top Deck travel; writing of the gap year inspired book “Across Asia on the Cheap” under the Lonely Planet brand, foundation of the Student Travel Association (STA).

1980’s — as the baby-boomers live steady and had their own families; traveling this time was lessen. The housing market crash was an indication of the less available funds parents can offer to their children for youth travel. However, few companies were going global and the worldwide tickets were developed in preparation for the 1990’s explosion.

1990’s — the United Kingdom got released from the recession which sprouted into colorful media channels and innovative advertisements captivated the hearts of baby-boomer’s youth reaching 18. It is when the gap year volunteering and gap year travel launched massively encouraging Australia to have its first gap year program.

2000 — with the introduction of the gap year program via internet in 1998, many gap year websites have become popular. In July 2005, the UK outbound at £2.2bn and speculations for 2010 is £11bn. It is also the year when the market demand split into different age brackets wherein; ages 18 – 24 (pre, during, and post university), 25-35 (career gap and career sabbatical) and 55-65 (pre and post retirement gap travelers).

At the present day, it is noticeable that the gap year programs have become a major business for most companies. Hundreds of gap year information sites are being build very month gap year opportunities and possibilities have become cross-national. Today, students from the United States, UK, Australia, and New Zealand are traveling into Africa, Middle East, Asia, Europe, and South America.

After graduating High School, Chris and a couple of his friends wanted to do a Gap Year Travel and so they went to some great places around the world for 5 months and did great gap year activities. On their trip, they saw amazing things and met people they will never forget…

The friends started off by visiting and travel Thailand; this is one of the most beautiful cheap places in the world. You can see a lot without spending too much money. The nightlife is also very good in Thailand. But in order to do more cultural stuff, Chris and his friends went to travel Cambodia and visit Vietnam where they saw great statues and buildings and relived the war in Vietnam by wandering through the tunnels, seeing the horrible traps from the Vietnamese people and even shooting with guns.

Afterwards, the gap year trip continued towards Singapore, Australia and especially New Zealand where they did amazing stuff. Chris told me that New Zealand was one of his best experiences and everyone has to go there if you have the opportunity. The only negative part, he said, is that it’s very expensive because you want to do as much as possible: walking in glaciers, visiting crocodile farms, going on boat trips, skydiving over the best place in the world to do so, and this is just a little summary of all the great opportunities of the South Pacific island.

At the Fiji Island, Chris and his friends experienced the slow, relaxing way of life at one of the most magical beaches in the world. They travelled extremely beautiful islands for three weeks and prepared themselves for more mainstream stuff. Because afterwards, they visited Hollywood and other attractions in Los Angeles, went to travel Mexico and they finished their perfect trip in a perfect way by going to Las Vegas and live the Las Vegas life for one night.

Talking about a good way to experience a gap year program, I think Chris and his friends topped it all
