Gap Year, Recover your Spirit and Faith
March 13th, 2009 Posted in Gap Year IdeasWho can engage in gap year journey? A travel to recover your spirit and faith in humanity and yourself; according to recent studies made my universities. Lately, people who are in their late 30s and early 40s are those who packed a bag or go for a gap year break.
So, what do these people who engage in a gap travel do while they are away home? Some who loves to travel just tour different countries and bask in the different culture they met with their journeys. For those who got a set mine, go for a volunteer gap year travel for a few weeks just to unwind a little. Some even went to join gap programs for a few months for a more meaningful gap journey. Some volunteer to teach non-English speaking students and others just spend time to help families build their own homes or help them build their own livelihood.
But my own gap year travel took place in southern coast of South Africa. I knew then that Africa has so much to offer. But my experience in this secluded part of Madagascar ma me long o spend time helping these people. It was not only pure ‘helping time’ but fun. I never thought that a few run and swim in the beaches of Madagascar can change a few things I got on my mind.
I was assigned to teach children in this part of Madagascar. After a days work I got to spend time with the locales just enjoying the luxury of free beach area. The feel of the sand under my foot is luxurious and wonderful. The clear water gently taps my ankle as I walk with a colleague volunteer and talks about my ideals as a teacher and life.
Madagascar Beach life without the normal sights of busy tourist and expensive food is just the right element to liven up my spirit and faith.
